Don’t forget the user account ones as well, /Library/ApplicationSupport, and /Library/LaunchAgents. Last step is to go remove any entries under /Library/ApplicationSupport, /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons.
sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/.These are found under /Library/LaunchDaemons/. Stop uses the Label, but Unload uses the direct file path to the Launch Daemon. I would stop it, then unload it to make it no longer a launch daemon. Those with PIDs are active I assume, so say I want to stop the textwrangler one (although I love this app so I won’t actually do that). So run a list, show only non apple items, then stop and unload the item you are removing. And that is truly an eye opener when you think you have deleted an application only to find it still has pieces running. Running the list option gives you all launch daemons installed, piping it to grep and excluding “apple” will show you all non apple items. LAUNCHCTL is and awesome tool, I used it to search for items, stop them, and unload them from running processes. That removes the app, but not any of it’s assorted launch daemons, helper apps, and other bits and bobs it installed on my behalf. First thing I did was to drag the app from the Applications folder to the Trash and then empty trash. I now wanted to remove them from my system. So, I had a few applications recently that I no longer needed to use or they were only installed for testing. You would think that the GUI simplicity would cover it all (lol um srsly if you think this then maybe this post isn’t for you). This is a random scattering of my playing with the command line interface for Mac OsX, usually a search for info and CLI tools is predicated by a situation I find myself tangling with, or a random idea pops in my head like”hey if I had to do this manually how would I do it”?
